Unit 10: SUMMARY
College Applications
Keeping track of college applications can become a daunting task if you don’t follow a plan. Encourage students to make a file folder for each individual college they plan to consider and keep them in an organizer. Students should keep copies of all correspondence (email, verbal, and written), applications, brochures, and anything else related to the school in the corresponding file folder for easy access.
Today, students have more options than ever. From the Coalition for Access, Affordability, and Success (CAAS) Application, to the Common Application students can begin working on their applications as early as freshman year. Students will have the option to roll over their input data to the actual application, in senior year. Additionally, if students can complete application essays during the summer, then they are more likely to enjoy all that senior year has to offer.
After applying, make sure students pay close attention to any correspondence from the colleges. It’s important not to miss deadlines or requests for additional information.
