UNIT 2: SUMMARY
Self Assessment
The search for the right college begins with exploring oneself, rather than a list of colleges. During this step, you will be asked to complete the Personal Inventory and 3D Exercise Worksheets to help you understand your strengths and weaknesses. You will also learn about and create an Elevator Pitch to assist in verbalizing who you are and what you hope to accomplish.
Remember that you are creating a Strengths-Based Profile – a profile that will tell colleges what kind of student and person you are.
Using this information, you can begin to explore careers of interest. There are numerous options available to help your research. Searching online career databases and websites, visiting your local library, and speaking with professionals can all help you better understand these potential career paths. You should research and record six to eight careers for consideration, then connect these careers to possible college majors. Brainstorm ideas for hands-on experience in your potential career – internships, job shadowing, and volunteer work associated with the profession.
